Requirements
Midshipmen gain valuable skills through leadership experience from the NROTC Program. This includes taking a Naval Science course each semester and playing an active role in the Battalion Chain of Command. You’ll also have opportunities to participate in community service projects. These activities will prepare you for both military and civilian careers.
Academic Requirements
While enrolled in the NROTC program, a midshipman must maintain a GPA above a 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) each semester. In addition to the required courses for their particular degree, midshipmen must also take the required Naval Science courses and meet the following requirements:
Navy Option
- One year of calculus (6 credits)
- One year of physics (6 credits)
- One year of upper-level writing (6 credits)
- One course of U.S. military history or national security policy (3 credits)
- One course of cultural studies (3 credits)
Marine Option
- One year of upper-level writing (6 credits)
- One course of U.S. military history or national security policy (3 credits)
- One course of cultural studies (3 credits)
Physical Requirements
Midshipmen are expected to maintain high levels of fitness while in the NROTC program and throughout their Navy/Marine Corps careers. The effort and initiative shown in this regard is a direct measure of aptitude for service as a commissioned officer. Summer Cruise
Another highlight for Scholarship students and College Program students with Advanced Standing is Summer Cruise Training, where you’ll spend a portion of your summers alongside Navy and Marine Corps officers in the fleet, in a variety of capacities, including:

Surface Warfare - assigned to a surface ship

Nuclear Power – assigned to a submarine or aircraft carrier

Afloat Aviation – assigned to train aboard a carrier, including flight time if feasible

Ashore Aviation – assigned to train with a Navy aviation squadron, including flight time if feasible

Foreign Exchange – assigned to train with navies of other countries
Your Summer Cruise Training will not only give you on-the-job experience as a Naval Officer, but it will also help you choose which area of emphasis you want to pursue.
Eligibility Requirements
The minimum criteria for selection are:

Be motivated to serve as a commissioned officer in the Naval service

Be a U.S. or naturalized citizen or have submitted naturalization papers (must be naturalized prior to entry to Advanced Standing)

Be enrolled as a full-time student at a host institution or an institution with a cross-town enrollment agreement

Be a high school graduate or possess an equivalency certificate
-
Have no apparent physically disqualifying factors based on a review of the Report of Medical History DD Form 2807-1

Have the ability to meet the height/weight requirements

Have no felony conviction or conviction by courts martial
-
Not be awaiting criminal trial or sentencing, or be under any type of military or civil restraint as a result of violation of law or regulation, or have been convicted of an offense the nature of which renders the applicant unfit for commissioned service

Meet DoN requirements concerning use of drugs or alcohol in accordance with OPNAVINST 5350.7 series. Each unit shall explain these requirements to students before they execute the NROTC College Program Application NSTC 1533/133 and ask that each student, as part of the application process, sign the Drug and Alcohol Statement of Understanding NSTC 1533/153

Complete and sign the Drug Statement for Naval Reserve Officers Corps Application 1533/101. Any student who answers yes to questions concerning previous use or involvement with drugs may not be awarded scholarship/Advanced Standing without specific approval of NSTC OD

Have no body piercings or tattoos that violate Navy or Marine Corps policy

Have two or more years of college coursework remaining until they receive a degree
